Medigap Plan

Learn About Medigap Plan-N

What Plan N DOES NOT Cover (Standard Plan N):

  • Medicare Part B Deductible: You are responsible for paying the Medicare Part B annual deductible ($257 in 2025) yourself.
  • Part B Excess Charges: This is a key difference between Plan N and Plan G. Plan N does not cover Part B excess charges (the difference between what a provider charges and the Medicare-approved amount, up to 15% above the Medicare-approved amount). However, some states prohibit excess charges, which can make Plan N even more attractive in those states.
  • Routine Vision, Dental, or Hearing: Standard Medigap plans do not cover routine dental, vision, or hearing services.
  • Prescription Drugs: Medigap plans, including Plan N, do not cover prescription drugs. You will need a separate Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan for this coverage.

Key Features of Medicare Supplement Plan N (2025):

  • Part A Coinsurance & Hospital Costs: Covers 100% of Part A coinsurance and hospital costs for an additional 365 days after Medicare benefits are exhausted.
  • Part B Coinsurance or Copayment: Covers 100% of the Part B coinsurance or copayment, except for:
    • A copayment of up to $20 for some office visits.
    • A copayment of up to $50 for emergency room visits that do not result in inpatient admission.
  • Blood (First 3 Pints): Covers the cost of the first 3 pints of blood each year.
  • Part A Hospice Care Coinsurance or Copayment: Covers 100% of the coinsurance or copayment for Medicare-approved hospice care.
  • Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Care Coinsurance: Covers 100% of the coinsurance for skilled nursing facility care.
  • Part A Deductible: Covers 100% of the Medicare Part A deductible ($1,676 per benefit period in 2025).
  • Foreign Travel Emergency: Covers 80% of approved foreign travel emergency costs (up to plan limits, typically after a small deductible, and a lifetime maximum).

Important Notes for Medicare Supplement Plan N (2025):

  • **Part A Deductible Cost-Sharing:** The primary distinguishing feature of Plan M is that it covers only 50% of your Medicare Part A deductible. You are responsible for the other 50%.
  • **No Out-of-Pocket Limit:** Unlike Plans K and L, Plan M does NOT have an annual out-of-pocket limit. While your cost-sharing is defined, there’s no cap on how much you might spend in a year for Medicare-approved services not fully covered by the plan.
  • **Part B Deductible:** You are responsible for paying the Medicare Part B annual deductible ($257 in 2025) yourself.
  • **Part B Excess Charges:** Plan M does NOT cover Part B excess charges. This means if a provider charges more than the Medicare-approved amount, you would be responsible for the difference (up to 15% above the Medicare-approved amount).
  • **Prescription Drugs:** Medicare Supplement plans (including Plan M) do NOT cover outpatient prescription drugs. You will need a separate Medicare Part D plan for drug coverage.
  • **Premiums:** Due to its cost-sharing on the Part A deductible, Plan M generally has lower monthly premiums compared to more comprehensive plans like Plan D or Plan G. Premiums vary by insurance company, location (e.g., West Vero Corridor, Florida), age, gender, tobacco use, and other factors.
  • **State Variations:** This table applies to most states. Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Wisconsin have different standardized Medigap plans.
